THE QUIETUS - Preview Q & A - by Luke Turner

A project by Susanna Davies-Crook, Alastair Frazer, Emily Beber, Natasha Chubbock

[ supported by Artliner, Victoria and Albert Museum, Royal College of Art, Kent University ]

Speed of Sound interprets a history of aerodynamic advancement through sound, in a day of talks and performances reactivating the decommissioned space of Q121 and air return duct at the historic Farnborough Wind Tunnels. Manipulation of acoustics plays an important role for 21st century developments in both aviation and experimental music.

Investigating ideas of noise and turbulence, and approaches to sensing and recording, this event converges findings in aerodynamics and experimental sound practices as invited artists and speakers engage with the physical uses of sound. This intervention into the space features a 38-channel/ 42 piece Genelec bi-panoramic diffusion system installed throughout the Wind Tunnel spaces.

Setlist: Dalhous (Blackest Ever Black) / Cindytalk (Editions Mego) / Teleplasmiste (Mark Pilkington/Strange Attractor with Michael J York) / Aki Pasoulas & Paul Fretwell (MAAST) / Sound as Terror (Royal College of Art) / Graham Rood (PHD Sound & vibration research / wind tunnel engineer / FAST Museum)
